Summer has finally arrived, and along with it comes a few things I’ve been eagerly anticipating. My dreams of warmer weather, outdoor activities and summertime celebrations have come true.

If you’re like me, you tend to drink more beverages as the weather warms up. It makes sense as you spend more time outdoors or attending social gatherings. But are you aware of the extra “liquid calories” you may be adding to your diet? If you’re not careful, one or two extra beverages could add up to several hundred calories or even more! Soda: Choosing diet soda instead of regular will save you about 150 calories per 12 ounce serving.

 

Lemonade: There are numerous options to choose from in a wide range of flavors. Choosing those made with low calorie sweeteners will save you about 90 calories per 12 ounce serving.

Iced coffee or iced tea: Use low-calorie sweetener packets in place of sugar.

 

Alcoholic beverages: Alternate alcoholic beverages with low- or no-calorie beverages. In mixed drinks, use a low-calorie sweetener instead of sugar.
