As part of EXPO Milano 2015, the IFIC Foundation will host an invitation only Communications Summit in Rome, Italy on May 20, 2015 titled, “Emerging Market Leaders Workshop on Effective Messaging on Global Food Production Issues.”  The Summit is a collaborative effort between IFIC Foundation, U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) Emerging Market Program, and the U.S. Diplomatic Mission to Italy.

International food, agriculture, and risk communication experts will share insights and science-based communication best practices with participating representatives from emerging market countries (i.e. those countries defined by the World Bank as having a per capita income of less than $12,746, the ceiling on upper-middle income economies), including Permanent Representatives to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

As the world prepares to feed a planet of 9.6 billion people by 2050, FAS Administrator Philip Karsting noted, “[t]he decades ahead hold immense challenge and opportunity where global food systems are concerned.  These conversations are key to helping us meet them.”

Ambassador Kenneth Quinn, President of the World Food Prize Foundation, will give a luncheon keynote address entitled "The Road to the Market is Paved with Technology.”
